Experiences
Cooking
The hostess of Pandan House prepares delicious meals. You can go to the market with her in Amlapura to see where she purchases the ingredients. You could also go with the host to a kampung to see how the chicken and pigs live here and how the vegetables are cultivated. Take a look in the kitchen of your hostess and see how she prepares the dishes. You can ask for the recipes and help her cooking to get a better understanding of the Balinese or Indonesian kitchen.
Painting
There are guests who like to get their own portrait painted, either with oil paint or water paint. It’s nice to take your own portrait home as a souvenir. Maybe you like to wear typical Balinese clothes for the painting? Please ask your host for the painter. He can give you more information regarding the costs and the time that it takes to make the painting.
Sculpt
In the banjar of Pandan, sculptures are made of lava stone. If you wish you can try and make your own sculpture together with a man from the banjar. You can buy a stone there and in a few days you create your own statue, of course with Balinese help. Maybe you just prefer to watch and buy a little statue.
Wood handcraft
Wooden sculptures are also made in the banjar. You can also try and do this for yourself if you wish.
The farmer
In the surroundings of Pandan House there is a lot of agriculture. It might be an idea to help the farmer with the agriculture. Maybe an ox just ploughs up the field and you want to help? You could also plant rice plants in the ground. Please do not hesitate to ask your host regarding the possibilities.
Municipal services
If you are curious to see a Balinese police office, a hospital, a school or a ‘town-hall’, please do go with your host and let him explain you how it all works.
Own ideas
If you have own ideas to do something in which the local population can take part, please do ask your host. There are a lot of possibilities and you can get your own experience in the Balinese culture.
