Excursions at Bali
Gunung Agung
This is the highest mountain/volcano (3.142 m) in Bali with a crater of 500 m profile. The Balinese people believe that this is the place where the god stays; they believe high places are holy.
Pura Besakih
This is the biggest temple complex in Bali. In this complex there are a lot of temples, every family in Bali has its own temple in this complex. If you would like to go inside the temple complex, you need to cover your legs with a sarong. You can rent a sarong at the entrance of the complex. On the way to the temple complex there are a lot of souvenir shops.
Gunung Batur and Lake Batur
The Gunung Batur is 1.717 m high and is still an active volcano. Everywhere you will see little steam clouds from the volcano. The Batur lake is inside the crater of the volcano, the lake is 3 km long and 9 km wide. The Balinese people believe that the goddess Ida Batara Dewi Ulun Danu is living here.
Lake Bratan
In the surroundings of this lake there are some tourist attractions. You can have a nice walk here and the air is cool and fresh. It is a very natural en quiet area.
Kuta, Nusa Dua and Sanur
These are typical tourist places on the south coast of the island and they are close to the airport and Denpasar, the capital of Bali. You will find a lot of restaurants, bars, shops and of course the beach.
Ubud
This is an art village in the centre of Bali. All kinds of art people are living here and there are many art shops. The local market is nice and there is also a monkey forest where you can meet monkeys and visit an old temple. In the theatre of Ubud you can visit dancing shows where they express the Balinese stories by dance and music.
Denpasar
Denpasar is the capital of Bali. The capital is a trade city, with a lot of shops. You can also find a museum, markets, a cultural place and everything else a capital city has to offer.
Celuk
Celuk is a village in the centre of Bali that is known for its silver. The host of Pandan House knows a place where you can order a product. You can find all kinds of silver products, but mainly jewellery.
Batubulan
This is a place where they are specialists in stone cutting. Everywhere you can see the people working with stones, you can see how they make many kinds of statues.
Gianyar
Gianyar is known for the many gold shops.
Goa Lawah
There are a lot of bats living in this cave. In the surrounding of this cave there is one holy temple.
Candi Dasa
This is a sea site place, there are all kinds of restaurants and hotels.
Klungkung
In the past there was here a palace of one off the powerful kings off Bali. Now you can visit the "Kerta Gosa", this used to be the court of justice in the past. In this court there are ceiling paintings. There is also a museum where they show you the past of Klungkung.
Pandangbai
This is a harbour city where the boats are who bring you to Lombok.
Goa Gaja
Nearly by Ubud there is this elephant cave. They used this in the past for accommodation for priest people.
Bangli
This little city gets a lot of visitors because they have the temple Pura Kehen. This temple is on a beautifull place with a nice view. Also there is the temple Pura Dalem Pengungekan, a typical temple to remember the death people.
Singaraja
In the past this was the capital city of Bali. You can visit the historical library (Gedong Kirtya) where you can see books made from "Lontar paper" (paper from the palm tree) . Of course they have the harbour, the temple Pura Agung Jagatna and the local market. In this city you see a lot of houses built in the ’30 by the Dutch.
Amed
This is a nice little village where you can snorkel and where is a small salt industry.
Air Panas (hot springs)
Here are springs with warm water, they made some bassins where you can take a bath. This is a nice place to stay and if you have some skin problems, take a bath. The problems will solve in a few days.
